Our Story

Empowerment for Youth and Awareness (EYA) was established in 2018, starting as a group of peers who decided to contribute their potentiality to bring significant changes and improvements into lives of young people and marginalized communities in Northern zone\/ Tanzania. The planned establishment of a registered non-governmental organization will provide the development of a qualified, more organized and systematized work. Reasonable for the group of volunteers joining together to serve people of marginalized communities is because there have been no any group, institution or organization yet that is based in Northern zone of Tanzania to serve people of marginalized communities. We, as volunteers, found out that our beneficiaries are in need of health care education, health referral services, health advocacy and\u00a0 psychological support. However, we came to realize the level of advocacy in Northern zone towards marginalized groups. Human rights are often at low level for these stigmatized. What is essential for improvement, is to educate people to be aware of their basic civil rights and basic laws which protect their lives as citizens of Tanzania. As a non-governmental organization, we want to see that all of our people are able to access legal services by playing the role of legal referral linkage as for now they are neglected to be supported legally when they undergo legal investigation. EYA raised as the result of hostility in Northern zone towards vulnerable people, high level of stigma and discrimination, unlawful frequent arrests, pre-trial detention & custody, physical and sexual assaults, domestic violence, torture & harassments, attacks & raids, denial & negligence, depression and suicides. EYA stands with everyone who supports to bring changes and improvement to the beneficiaries\u2019 welfare, wellbeing and security through advocacy, health literacy, health referral linkage, legal literacy, legal referral linkage, social-economic empowerment and safety and security mechanism to support vulnerable individuals during the time of risks and insecurities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
